By conducting a questionnaire I discovered that 80% of students asked said they wanted a magazine. Showing there is a market for the magazine. But contradicting this, only 10% of students said they would actually buy the magazine which suggests that I would need to have advertising space in the magazine to make some money. The advertising would have to be relevant to my target audience, for example ‘Free Derm’ spot cream/face wash, as spots are commonly known as problems for teenagers and students. I would also advertise shops with high discount on, or sales which would be relevant to that issue and season.
60% of the students asked said they would pay something for the magazine if it was good enough. So to promote the first issue I would maybe have it free or cheaper than it would normally be, to get students interested and maybe buy it again or even subscribe. Although 80% of students asked said they would not subscribe to the magazine, to get students interested in subscribing to the magazine I would offer discounts to those students who do subscribe. This would get more students interested as they would much rather buy the magazine if it was cheaper.
When asked 90% of students said they would purchase the college magazine either, fort nightly or monthly, so this would be how often the magazine would be published as if it was published every week hardly anyone would buy it and the magazine would lose money, resulting in the magazine becoming closed.
To keep students interested in buying the magazine, I will include bright colours, photography, photographs of students, important news relevant to the area, an eye catching front cover preferably with a picture of a student on the front. Also the main subjects most subjects students would like to have involved in the magazine are:
-Gossip page.
-College information.
-Course information.
-Events guide.
-Job section.
